World Wide Village (WWV), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded in 2001 by a group of U.S. entrepreneurs whose hearts were touched by what they saw when they visited Haiti. The group made a pledge to help families by providing funds, resources and expertise. Our objective is to transform lives and empower communities through Christian education, local churches, housing construction, and using mission teams to train and work alongside our Haitian brothers and sisters. WWV intends to be a catalyst for the creation of vibrant communities while working to eliminate chronic dependency and restore dignity.
On August 18, 2011, WWV proudly celebrated its 10-year anniversary as an organization. With God’s help and the help of our faithful donors, much has been accomplished – yet much remains to be done.
What if we all decided to make a difference? What if for every dollar we spent on food we sent that same about to an aid agency? What if we fasted according to Isaiah 58:7 on behalf of the hungry? What if we cut out all non-essentials and used the money to rescue literally millions of lives? What if we closed the gap between what we do and what we are capable of doing? What if, instead of asking, “what could I possibly do?” we actually did something?
By a group of entrepreneur’s who visited Haiti back in 2001, the answers weren’t any easier than they are today, but the questions, and a deep Christian faith did prompt them to take action, and World Wide Village was born. Today, the vision of World Wide Village goes well beyond simply giving to fill Haitian needs. We are called to serve the Haitian people in ways that build their future. As we move into the next era of transforming lives, empowering communities and loving people, we expect to build on our established foundations and serve as a force for positive social, cultural and economic growth in Haiti.
Our present awareness can and should be the catalyst to turn the nightmarish past into a healthy and productive future. To help build that future World Wide Village has developed initiatives in Education, Housing Construction, Mission Team Travel. These initiatives are built around relationships with local Haitian churches, pastors, and community leaders, and in partnership with other service organizations in Haiti.
We envision a day…
When every child is immunized, enjoys healthy and nutritional daily meals, and has access to quality Christian education. The family unit has been reestablished, sufficient health care facilities exist, the local communities have clean, safe water, adults are gainfully working toward economic sustainability, and the country enjoys national peace. And, everyone knows someone who knows Jesus!
